The Director-General (DG), National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim, has warned corps members against misconduct.
He gave the warning when he paid an unscheduled visit to 2019 Batch “B” (Stream One) corps members currently undergoing a three-week orientation course at the Lagos State NYSC Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja.
He particularly counseled female corps members on the need to uphold their dignity and be good ambassadors of the scheme and their parents, and urged all to be guided by the NYSC Act and avoid actions that can endanger their lives.
“Please don’t embark on unauthorized journeys. Be focused, disciplined, be security conscious, study the security tips we gave you and wherever you are posted to, locate and interact with the Police post and Army barracks among others,” Ibrahim said.
With the Lagos State government making its skill acquisition centre available for training of corps members, the DG urged them to embrace Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme of the scheme so they can become wealth creators.
He also noted that the SAED Centres in Gombe and Ekiti States would be replicated in other zones across the country.
“The DG also appealed to NYSC camp officialsl to be disciplined in the discharge of their duties, and uphold loyalty to the NYSC scheme. He promised them that the scheme would enhance their welfare.
He, however, warned them to desist from extorting money and other forms of gratification from the corps members.
